Rod Tiers & Upgrades

Upgrade your fishing rod at the Rod Station. Start with a vanilla Fishing Rod and work your way up to the Master Angler’s Rod.

At a crafting table, combine 4 planks, 1 stick, and 1 string. Any type of wood planks works. Place the station nearby — you’ll use it for every rod upgrade.

A Fish Catalyst is an upgrade ingredient made from fish. For your first rod, you need a Common Fish Catalyst.

Catch 3 raw Cod or Salmon with your vanilla rod. Put one fish in each of the three input slots of a Fish Processor, press Start, then wait for it to produce your catalyst. You can mix Cod and Salmon.

How do I craft a Fish Processor?

At a crafting table, combine 3 iron ingots, 5 planks, and 1 hopper:

Place it near your Rod Station. You’ll use it again to make catalysts for later upgrades.

Open your Rod Station and add:

  • Your vanilla Fishing Rod to the rod slot.
  • 1 Iron Ingot to the resource slot.
  • 1 Common Fish Catalyst to the catalyst slot.

Take the Reed Rod from the output slot. You’re ready to try the fishing minigame and equip lines, lures, and your first charm.

The Rod Station upgrades your rod. Equip lines and lures with the Rod Configuration keybind listed in your game’s Controls settings. Equip charms at the Charm Station.

Bring your rod back to the same station when you’re ready for the next tier. Each upgrade adds one charm slot: the Reed Rod has 1, Journeyman’s has 2, and Master Angler’s has 3.

Your rod Upgrade to Bring along
Reed Rod Journeyman’s Rod 1 Rare Fish Catalyst + 1 Diamond
Journeyman’s Rod Master Angler’s Rod 1 Legendary Fish Catalyst + 1 Netherite Ingot

Make these catalysts from 3 fish of the matching rarity in the Fish Processor, just as you did for your first upgrade.

After Master Angler, continue with Nether & End Rods.
