Fishing Lines

Fishing lines make fish easier to reel in. Start with Basic Line — all you need is string and a pair of shears.

Combine 1 String and 1 pair of Shears to make 4 Basic Lines. You can place the ingredients in any arrangement.

Your shears lose durability with each craft, so you can reuse them until they break.

With your Reed Rod or a higher-tier rod, open Rod Configuration using the keybind listed in your game’s Controls settings. Put your lines into the rod’s line slot.

You can load up to 64 lines at once. A line is normally used when a fish bites and the reeling minigame begins, so keep some spares for your next fishing trip.

Better lines give you more help during the minigame:

Basic 5%
Iron 10%
Diamond 15%
Netherite 20%

Combine 4 Basic Lines, 1 Iron Ingot, and 1 Slime Ball to make 4 Iron Lines. Place each Basic Line in its own crafting slot; the arrangement doesn’t matter.

Use the same method with 4 Iron Lines, 1 Diamond, and 1 Slime Ball to make 4 Diamond Lines. Again, put each line in a separate slot.

For the final upgrade, level a Fisherman villager to Master to unlock the trade. Bring 64 Diamond Lines and 1 Netherite Ingot to receive 64 Netherite Lines.

Equip your new lines through Rod Configuration whenever you upgrade.

Combine 4 Bad Lines at a crafting table, one in each of four slots, to recover 1 Basic Line. The arrangement doesn’t matter. This is another use for Bad Line collected while fishing.
