How to Fish
Hold the left mouse button during green; release it during orange and red. That is the core of the fishing minigame. Your goal is to bring the escape gauge down to zero.
Prepare your rod
Section titled “Prepare your rod”- Upgrade a vanilla Fishing Rod into a Reed Rod at the Rod Station.
- Open Rod Configuration, using the keybind shown in Controls, and load Fishing Lines.
- Equip a lure for your location. Calm Water is a useful first choice in a river.
- Optionally equip a charm at the Charm Station.
Start in water. Lava needs the Magma Fishing charm effect; End spots need the End Fishing effect. These access requirements apply to every rod tier. See Nether & End Rods.
Cast and wait
Section titled “Cast and wait”Use your rod to cast the bobber. When a fish bites and the minigame starts, switch your attention to its phase and escape gauge. A line is normally spent when the attempt begins, even if you later lose the fish; Line Conservation can save it.
Follow the phase
Section titled “Follow the phase”| Phase | What to do | What happens |

| Green | Hold the left mouse button. | The escape gauge falls toward landing the catch. |
| Orange | Release the left mouse button. | The fish drifts toward escape slowly; holding makes it much worse. |
| Red | Keep the left mouse button released. | The fish struggles; holding causes the fastest movement toward escape. |
The gauge normally starts at 50. At 0, you land the catch; at 100, the fish escapes. Even while you release, the gauge drifts upward, so use the green phases to recover progress. Watch the current phase rather than holding the button through the whole attempt.
Press Escape to cancel the minigame. Cancellation does not land the catch.
Make reeling easier
Section titled “Make reeling easier”Better lines reduce movement toward escape and strengthen progress toward a catch. Reel Speed charms help during green; Head Start begins the attempt closer to success. Steady Hand and Weighted Line offer more help as your gear improves.
Rarity odds determine what bites, not whether you will land it. Use the Fishing Setup Lab to compare equipment, and the fish reference to choose a location.
Keep your catch
Section titled “Keep your catch”A Tackle Bag can collect selected rarities automatically. Your Journal keeps your personal discoveries and best catches. Spare fish can become catalysts, food, or emeralds.
