Enchantments

Enchant your lure, then equip it through Rod Configuration. Most of the mod’s 6 custom enchantments work on lures; Spare Thread and Spare Spool go on your Tackle Bag, Reinforced Tackle Bag, or End Fish Tank.

Use an Enchanting Table for Steady Hand, Weighted Line, and Aggressive Cast, or apply compatible books on an anvil. Deep Cast, Spare Thread, Spare Spool, and Mending require books rather than direct enchanting-table rolls.

Custom enchantment Fisherman trade level Other source
Deep Cast I Novice Guaranteed additional book in buried treasure
Steady Hand I Apprentice Enchanting Table
Weighted Line I Apprentice Enchanting Table
Aggressive Cast I Journeyman Enchanting Table
Spare Thread I Master 20% chance of an additional book in a Buried Treasure chest
Spare Spool I 20% chance of an additional book in a Buried Treasure chest

Combine matching books on an anvil to reach higher supported levels.

Your goal Look at
Easier reeling Steady Hand for less idle drift; Weighted Line for Rare+ fish.
Better rarity odds Luck of the Sea adds rarity rolls.
Faster bites Lure shortens the initial wait.
Different reeling pace Aggressive Cast speeds up both reeling and escape.
Longer reach Deep Cast extends casting reach.
Longer-lasting gear Unbreaking, Mending, and Spare Thread.

Use the Fishing Setup Lab to compare combinations before investing in them. The sections below explain each effect; the full formula table is at the bottom.

Shortens the initial bite timer by 5 seconds per level, up to level III. It doesn’t remove rarity rolls. The base initial wait is 100–600 ticks (5–30 seconds); Lure subtracts 100 ticks per level, with a minimum of zero. Bite Speed charms reduce the remaining timer by a percentage. The fish’s approach and the reeling minigame still take additional time.

Adds one extra rarity roll per level, up to level III. The rarest result is kept. It stacks with your rod and an active rarity lure, but doesn’t improve What’s That Lure’s single treasure-rarity roll.

Helps your lure last longer. At levels I, II, and III, a durability-loss attempt has a 50%, 33.3%, or 25% chance of costing durability, respectively.

Uses XP to repair your lure. An equipped Mending lure can use catch XP to repair itself; Spare Thread lets you repair stored Mending lures from a held bag or tank. Repairs use available XP, so the amount left for your experience bar can be lower.

These change the reeling minigame after a fish bites. Positive gauge movement heads toward escape; negative heads toward landing the catch.

Eases how fast an idle — not actively reeling — fish drifts toward escape.

Level N: idle escape movement × (1 − 0.15 N). Level III cuts idle drift by 45%.

Makes a Rare-or-better catch easier to hold once it’s hooked. No effect on Common or Uncommon.

Level N: +0.10 × N reel assist on Rare, Epic, and Legendary catches — for comparison, fishing lines give 0.05 to 0.20. Total assist is capped at 0.90. Level III adds 0.30 assistance.

Weighted Line changes reeling assistance, not rarity odds or fish weight.

Speeds the whole minigame up in both directions — quicker to land, quicker to lose.

Level N: all reeling and idle movement × (1 + 0.15 N).

Throws the bobber farther and lets the hook fish deeper below you before vanilla’s distance check reels it back — enough to drop straight down into a distant lava pool from a high ledge.

Level N: horizontal cast speed × (1 + 0.35 N); maximum hook range 32 + 20 N blocks.

Goes on a Tackle Bag, Reinforced Tackle Bag, or End Fish Tank, not a lure. While you hold the enchanted container, XP you pick up repairs damaged Mending lures stored inside it before your other Mending equipment, until the available XP is used up. Either hand works; simply carrying the bag elsewhere in your inventory does not activate Spare Thread.

No level scaling.

Goes on a Tackle Bag, Reinforced Tackle Bag, or End Fish Tank, not a lure. When you hold a bag with Spare Spool, it automatically supplies a replacement line from that bag to your equipped rod when the rod’s line runs out. It works from either hand; simply carrying the bag elsewhere in your inventory does not activate Spare Spool.

No level scaling.

N means the enchantment level. A tick is 1/20 of a second at normal server speed.
