Fish Food

Turn a spare fish into a Fish Bowl for a meal with a useful effect. Its region decides the effects, and its rarity decides how long they last.

For a simple first bowl, use a vanilla Cod or Salmon: it makes a Common Warm Ocean bowl with 15 seconds of Water Breathing.

Put one raw fish in one input slot of a Fish Processor, leave the other two empty, and press Start. Collect the Fish Filet when it finishes.

The Filet keeps the mod fish’s rarity and region. Vanilla Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, and Pufferfish make Common, Warm Ocean Filets.

Put your Filet into a furnace or smoker with fuel to make a Cooked Fish Filet. A furnace takes 10 seconds; a smoker takes 5 seconds at normal server speed.

The rarity and region stay the same through cooking. Raw and cooked Filets aren’t edible on their own — finish the bowl first.

Combine 1 Cooked Fish Filet and 1 Bowl in any arrangement:

Hold the Fish Bowl and use it to eat. It restores 4 hunger icons (8 points) with the same saturation as steak, and returns the empty bowl. You can eat it at full hunger to get its effects.

Matching bowls stack together. Bowls with different rarities or regions stay in separate stacks. Check the tooltip to see your bowl’s region, rarity, effects, and durations.

Every bowl grants its region’s main effect at level I. Rare, Epic, and Legendary bowls also grant the secondary effect listed below.

Region Main effect Secondary effect, Rare+
Warm Ocean Water Breathing Dolphin’s Grace
Cold Ocean Conduit Power Resistance
River Dolphin’s Grace Speed
Swamp Regeneration Resistance
Jungle Speed Jump Boost
Forest Health Boost Regeneration
Plains Speed Haste
Savanna Strength Fire Resistance
Desert / Badlands Haste Fire Resistance
Mountain Jump Boost Absorption
Frozen / Snowy Resistance Health Boost
Mushroom Saturation Regeneration
Cave Night Vision Haste
Nether Fire Resistance Strength
End Slow Falling Void Save

Lava-fish variants use the Nether food effects, even when caught in an Overworld biome.

Higher rarity extends the main effect and strengthens the secondary effect. Common and Uncommon bowls have no secondary effect.

Bowl rarity Main effect duration Secondary effect
Common 15 seconds None
Uncommon 30 seconds None
Rare 2 minutes Level I for 1 minute 30 seconds
Epic 8 minutes Level II for 6 minutes
Legendary 15 minutes Level III for 11 minutes 15 seconds

For example, a Rare River Fish Bowl gives Dolphin’s Grace I for 2 minutes and Speed I for 1 minute 30 seconds.

Void Save has its own shorter timer: 10 seconds for Rare, 20 for Epic, and 30 for Legendary. The main Slow Falling effect still lasts as shown in the table.

While Void Save is active, lethal void damage teleports you above land and restores half your maximum health. It can trigger more than once during its duration. It protects against void death, not other damage sources.
